If you're considering tools to automate QBRs, ROI summaries, or other customer-facing content, there's a good chance you’ve looked at Matik and Gainsight’s Success Snapshot. Both help reduce the time it takes to create personalized presentations, but they take very different approaches.
This blog breaks down the differences between the two, especially for teams looking to scale how they deliver insights to customers.
What is Matik?
Matik's AI automates the creation of personalized presentations, documents, and reports directly from your data. Pull from your BI, CRM, data warehouse and other sources to instantly produce on-brand, insight-rich content in your preferred format. Empower any team to align messaging, scale best practices, and tell consistent, impactful data stories - faster than ever.
What is Gainsight’s Success Snapshot?
Success Snapshot is a feature within Gainsight that automates the creation of QBRs and other presentations by pulling in data already living in Gainsight. Users build a template and then populate it with fields from within their C360 or Success Plan views.
It's a helpful feature for teams that have all their data in Gainsight and whose decks are fairly simple.
Where Matik Stands Out
1. Flexible data connections
Matik connects to more than 20 tools across CRMs, data warehouses, BI tools, and spreadsheets. If your customer data lives across multiple platforms, you won’t have to move it into a single system just to generate content.
2. Editable charts and tables
Charts and tables generated by Matik are fully editable in PowerPoint or Google Slides and can match your branding. You don’t get stuck with static screenshots, letting you make adjustments as needed.
3. AI-powered insights and summaries
Matik can automatically generate key takeaways, executive summaries, and insights based on the data in your presentation. These insights are designed to be customer-friendly, helping teams tell a clear and compelling story with less manual effort.
4. Built-in logic and custom date filters
You can use if-then logic to decide which slides to include and which data points to show. Plus, Matik supports dynamic time frames so you can show YTD, last 90 days, or whatever range makes sense for the conversation.
5. Personalized content, even in email
With Matik, you can send on-brand emails that include customer-specific tables and charts. You can also attach personalized content, even if it’s just a quick update between meetings.
6. Fully integrated visuals, not static images
Unlike tools that embed charts as static images, Matik inserts native, editable visualizations into your presentation. This makes it easier to customize visuals on the fly and maintain brand consistency across all content.
7. Quicker setup, easier scaling
Most teams are up and running with Matik in a couple of weeks. Because Matik queries your data directly rather than ingesting and storing it, you can connect your sources and start generating content right away.
When Gainsight Might Be a Better Fit
If your data lives entirely in Gainsight and your deck is fairly simple, Success Snapshot might be the better fit. It works well when all your customer data lives inside Gainsight and your decks follow a consistent structure.
However, if your team needs more customization, or if data lives across other platforms, you may run into limitations. Success Snapshot only supports static visuals and doesn't offer the same level of flexibility with content logic or formatting. Implementation also tends to take longer, especially if you’re setting up Gainsight for the first time.
Why Greenhouse Chose Matik Over Success Snapshot
Greenhouse initially explored Gainsight’s Success Snapshots feature as a way to automate the creation of data-driven content, but the formatting and design were inflexible, and the chart types were limited. Ultimately, Greenhouse decided to continue using Gainsight as their source of truth for when meetings should take place with a customer, while leveraging Matik to generate the necessary presentations for those meetings. Final Thoughts
If your team creates customer-facing content using data from multiple sources or needs flexibility in how that content is personalized, Matik is likely a better fit. It supports editable charts and tables, dynamic logic for slide and data inclusion, and makes it easy to tailor materials to each customer. You can generate content quickly, and setup usually takes just a couple of weeks.
Success Snapshots can work well if your team is already using Gainsight and sticking to a standardized deck format. But if you need more control over the content, or your data lives outside of Gainsight, you may run into limitations. For teams looking to scale personalized content without added complexity, Matik makes that much easier.
